A few words from Adrian Reading, founder and Managing Director of Blackjack Surface Technology.
I have been involved in all aspects of the hard landscaping and paving industry for more than 20 years, from product development and production, through to sales and marketing, working for small independent companies through to huge multi nationals.
In all this time, it never ceased to amaze me how many people would buy a new driveway or patio, sometimes for many thousands of pounds, and then fail to maintain the paving. I used to liken it to someone buying a new Mercedes and then never having it serviced or cleaned!
I spent some time looking at the situation and realised that the answer was not that people did not want to maintain their investment, more that the options available were very limited and generally expensive. Most options involved employing contractors to carry out the work, and the products themselves were not readily available to the public.
Although I do believe that employing a contractor to carry out maintenance work on your paving is the best option for many, a reasonably competent and fit DIYer with some clear and concise directions would be more than capable of cleaning and sealing all types of paving.
I had to source products that were DIY friendly but commercial quality. I contacted Dalton Enterprises in the USA who have been the leaders in the Asphalt Sealer market there for more than 45 years and who sell more than one million pails of sealer per year through outlets such as Home Depot (the American equivalent of B&Q) as well as a complete range of maintenance and repair products under the Latexite brand. I came to the conclusion that their products were far superior and far more cost effective than any of the Asphalt 'Coatings' currently available in the UK. In early 2011 I acquired the rights to the products for the UK and launched the UKs first homeowner friendly comprehensive range of professional quality, affordable, Asphalt paving maintenance products.
Now we are looking to make the brand more accessible through a range of retail stockists as well as directly through the internet to help you to Protect and Beautify your Driveway.
